Can I connect Bluetooth headphones to two devices at once?
Multipoint is the feature that lets one pair of headphones stay live on a laptop and a phone together. Which headphones have it, how to turn it on, and why it sometimes grabs the wrong audio.

Short answer
Only headphones with multipoint can hold two active connections at once, and it is a feature of the headphones rather than of your phone or laptop. Where it exists it is usually a toggle in the manufacturer's app, sometimes off by default. Without multipoint, headphones remember many devices but connect to one at a time and you have to switch manually.
Pairing and connecting are different things and the confusion between them causes most of the frustration here. Headphones typically remember eight or more paired devices indefinitely. What varies is how many of those remembered devices they can be actively connected to at the same time — one for most, two for multipoint models, and that is set by the headphones alone.

- Find out whether your headphones support it.Look for multipoint, dual connection, or dual audio in the specification or the app. Manufacturers use different names for the same thing. If the specification does not mention it, assume it is single-connection.
- Turn it on in the companion app.Several manufacturers ship multipoint disabled because it costs a small amount of battery and can complicate other features. It is usually a single toggle, sometimes tucked under advanced or connection settings.
- Pair to the second device with the headphones in pairing mode.Put the headphones into pairing mode again — usually a long hold on the power or Bluetooth button until they announce pairing — and pair from the second device. On multipoint models both connections then hold.
- Understand how audio switching works.With two devices connected, the headphones play whichever starts audio, and an incoming call on the phone usually takes priority over media on the laptop. The rules vary by manufacturer and are not always adjustable.
- Switch manually if you do not have multipoint.Disconnect on the device you are leaving rather than only pausing it, then connect from the other. Turning Bluetooth off on the first device is the fastest way, and the headphones will fall back to the other remembered device automatically.
- Deal with the grabbing problem.If the headphones keep jumping to the laptop when a notification sounds, mute system sounds on the laptop or set it as the non-preferred device in the app. This is the main real-world annoyance of multipoint.

Multipoint stopped working after an update
Cause: The toggle was reset, or the pairings became inconsistent — Fix: Remove the headphones from both devices, reset the headphones to factory state, then pair both again with the second one paired last.
Only one device connects even with multipoint on
Cause: One of them is holding an exclusive connection type — Fix: Some devices connect for calls as well as media and occupy both profiles. Disconnect that device fully, connect the other, then reconnect.
Audio comes out of the wrong device
Cause: Priority rules or a background sound — Fix: Pause or mute the device you are not using. A silent background tab playing an advert is a common invisible cause.
It works with two phones but not with a work laptop
Cause: Managed work devices sometimes restrict Bluetooth profiles — Fix: Check with your IT policy. Some managed laptops block audio profiles or restrict pairing to approved devices.

Can I connect to three devices at once?
Almost never. Multipoint on consumer headphones means two active connections. A handful of models manage more but it is unusual.
Does multipoint reduce sound quality?
It can. Some models drop to a lower-quality codec while two devices are connected. If quality matters more than convenience, connect to one device only.
Why do my earbuds pair to my phone but never to my laptop?
