About GuideHQ
A search engine for practical everyday knowledge.
People arrive with a question — how do I remove mould?, why is my coffee bitter?, what do I do when a pipe bursts? — and leave with the answer. That is the whole product.
What we are trying to do
Most practical questions are answered badly online. You get a page that takes four screens to reach the point, or one that lists ten possibilities without telling you which is likely, or one that is confident about something it has not checked. GuideHQ exists because those answers waste people’s time on problems that already have a known solution.
Every guide opens with the answer. If you read nothing else, the first paragraph should be enough to act on. The rest explains why, so that next time you do not need us.
How guides are written
Guides are structured rather than free-form: a quick answer, an explanation of what is actually going on, real steps with the reasoning attached, the mistakes that cause the problem, and answers to the questions people ask next. That structure is enforced by the system, not by habit, which is why guides stay consistent across a catalogue of 5,840 of them.
We say when something is risky. Where a job involves gas, mains electricity, working at height or anything else that can genuinely hurt you, the guide says so plainly and says where the line is between competent DIY and work that needs a professional. We would rather tell you not to do something than be vague about it.

Where GuideHQ sits
GuideHQ is part of the HEKNO family. GuideHQ answers the question; where the answer is the start of a subject rather than the end of one, we hand off to a specialist that goes deeper. Coffee extraction, tea varieties and cocktail technique all have far more to them than a single guide can hold, and pretending otherwise would be its own kind of bad answer.
You can see the family on the HEKNO page. Those specialist products are in development — we link to them only where a handoff genuinely makes sense, and we do not claim they exist before they do.
What we do not do
- We do not diagnose medical conditions or give medical, legal or financial advice.
- We do not publish anything we would not follow ourselves.
- We do not pad guides to make them longer. If the answer is three sentences, the guide is short.
