Motherboard, liquid damage and hinge damage that has cracked the case usually are not. Check the support end date first — a machine that stops receiving security updates has a fixed remaining life whatever you spend on it.
Laptop repair economics are unusual because the deciding factor is often not physical at all. A machine in perfect condition whose operating system stops receiving security updates next year has a year left, and spending on it is spending on a year.
