- Now turn sync off, and read the prompt.Both platforms ask what to do with the copies on the device. One option keeps or downloads them; one removes them. The wording changes between versions, so read rather than recognising the shape of the button.
- Verify immediately afterwards.Open the photo app in flight mode. If your library is still browsable and full-size images open, the phone has real files. If items are missing or will not open, they were never downloaded.
