How do I set up a robot vacuum so it actually works?

Short answer

Most of the setup is to the house, not the machine: cables cleared, light objects moved, thresholds checked and no-go zones set. Run the first mapping pass with the house tidy and in daylight, then empty the bin and clean the brush regularly or performance falls off within weeks.

A robot vacuum works well or badly depending almost entirely on the environment it is given, which is why the same model delights one household and is abandoned by another.

Step by step
